Reggie’s Sky-High Adventure: A Tale of Hope and New Beginnings

Ever wondered how some animals find their way across Canada to shelters, loving homes, or specialized care? The answer: they fly with Canadian Wings of Rescue.

Canadian Wings of Rescue (CWoR) is a volunteer-run federally registered charity which collaborates with several Canadian rescue groups, shelters, and/or wildlife rehabilitation centers when they are faced with a transportation need. In such cases, CWoR arranges short flights via its volunteer pilots.

Here’s an up close and personal account of a recent CWoR flight for an 18-month-old Irish Setter, Reggie.

It was a frosty February morning in Sarnia, Ontario, when the selfless volunteers from Canadian Wings of Rescue and Tail Wind   prepared for an exciting mission to the City with Heart of Gold, aka Timmins, Ontario. Tailwind Rescue is a not-for-profit organization that provides flights to animals for rescue and relocation.

The sun cast a soft glow on the small aircraft that would soon become a lifeline for taking our rescue Reggie to his forever family in Timmins, Ontario.

Pilot Matthew Gross from Tail Wind Rescue was at the helm of the transport operation. His eyes sparkled with determination and compassion as he met Reggie and got ready for the two-hour flight to Reggie’s new home.

As Reggie hopped on-board the Moone , he was more than just a furry passenger with doleful eyes and docile temperament. He was a symbol of hope, and a  testament to the power of second chances. His constantly wagging tail spoke volumes.

Up in the air, as the plane soared through the azure skies, Reggie embarked on the journey of a lifetime. Each mile covered was a step closer to his new home, a step closer to the love and   that awaited him. Matthew’s company had a very calming effect on Reggie, and he snuggled up and dozed off soon after the plane took off, perhaps dreaming about his upcoming adventures!

Reggie’s journey is a testament to the power of love and compassion. It’s a story that reminds us of the difference we can make in the lives of animals in need. As we share this story, we would like to take a moment to extend our heartfelt gratitude to volunteer pilots, our generous donors who make it possible for us to do the work we do, families that adopt a rescue and our supporters who cheer us from the sidelines on our social media platform.

Stay tuned as we continue to share updates on Reggie’s journey and other heartwarming rescue stories. Together, we’re changing lives, one flight at a time.

Canadian Wings of Rescue is a volunteer-run organization that welcomes donations. Your support would mean the world to us. Interested? Please visit our website!

We’d like to give a big THANK YOU to our donors! 💙

Not a pilot? No problem. You can still help us fly.

Some of our biggest heroes are those who choose to support us in other powerful ways like setting up a one-time or recurring donation.

Your gifts help fuel rescue transports, like Benny & Bailey's, care for animals, and bring them safely home.

All donations over $25 come with a tax receipt, and every bit makes a difference.

You make our work possible, month after month and we’re so grateful. Click the link in our bio to support us!

Wonder what it’s like to volunteer as a pilot with Canadian Wings of Rescue?

Fulfil your flying hours requirement while helping animals in need and top it off with a charitable giving tax receipt! Our volunteer pilots share a unique blend of passion for aviation and dedication to helping animals in need.

We are always accepting new pilot volunteers. We welcome all pilots in good standing with at least a private pilot’s licence (PPL).

We’re grateful to every one of our volunteer pilots, past and present, who make lifesaving animal transports possible.

Animals like Zara, a rescued basset hound, got a second chance thanks to pilots like @dr.campbell.vet.dentist, who donate their time and skills to help animals in need.

While our pilots volunteer their aircraft and time, transports may still come with costs, due to things like unexpected weather delays or landing fees. Your donations help keep dogs, cats, owls, falcons, and even a wolf (really!) safely in the air with Canadian Wings of Rescue.

If you’d like to support the animals, and the volunteers who go the distance for them, click the link in our bio to donate! ✈️

When an injured bald eagle needed urgent help, volunteers stepped up, and fast.

From Thunder Bay to Southern Ontario, this rescue transport was a powerful display of compassion, coordination, and care. It took a late-night landing, an overnight foster and a team of volunteers united by one mission: care.
